warmth rating (Tog) guide

When you hear people talking about duvets, you've probably heard them mention a Tog rating.  Don't be put off by this term!   All you need to know is the higher the Tog rating then the warmer it will be. (Don't get confused with warmth and weight as a very warm down duvet can also be very light!)

As a guide I recommend the following:

3.0 Tog

For summer use and for children who get very hot in bed. Available in cotton and goose down duvet only.

4.5 Tog

For summer use, also some children prefer cooler duvets
6.0 Tog For spring & autumn in warmer houses or summer if you tend to get cold in bed.
9.0 Tog For spring & autumn use or for winter if you get very hot in bed.
10.5 Tog For spring & autumn use or for winter in warmer houses

12.0 Tog

For winter use in warm houses

13.5 Tog

For winter use in cooler houses

13.5 Four Seasons

A combination of two duvets (4.5 Tog and 9.0 Tog) which can be used together
or separately to provide comfort whatever the season!  The duvets fix together with buttons or poppers.

Be warned, not all duvets come in all togs - simply choose the nearest alternative.

Layered silk duvets come in light and medium weight suitable for summer and spring/autumn use respectively. Button a light weight silk duvet to a medium weight one and you have the ideal warmth for winter.

Once you've chosen the warmth level your final step in choosing the right duvet is to decide on the size you need.
