How much washing powder and fabric softener should I use? |
Always use the washing powder quantities recommended by the manufacturer; if too
much washing powder is used, powder residues can stick to the fibres, the cotton
fibres go hard and the colours fade. Too little washing power will mean that too
little decalcifier is present in the water and this also leads to a hardening of
the fibres.
Be sparing with fabric softeners; they stick to the surface of
the cotton fibres, which reduces the absorbency and drying ability of the
towels. Fabric softeners also encourage the formation of fluff. If you use a
tumble drier, you can dispense with softeners all together: during the drying
process, the air fluffs up the terry towelling and makes it particularly soft to
the touch. Terry towelling dried over a radiator goes stiff but can be fluffed
up again by gentle rubbing and kneading.
